Becoming part of the community
I recently launched my own technology blog, Open Source Thoughts, News and Queries. The blog is a great way for me to share and contribute with the technology communities which are out there and mine has a particular emphasis on the Drupal community.
The idea of a ‘Recruitment Agent’ matching up candidates to job specs sounds very outdated these days; in my experience what companies really want when they’ve identified a need for new talent is to speak to somebody who has a sound insight and understanding of what technology and requirements they’re talking about.
Being a ‘Technology Expert’ means we have extensive knowledge of the market and the talent that lies within in it, so much so that we already have an idea of what a client may require before they are even aware that a certain project or department might need somebody!
Let me explain this using the Drupal market as an example; Drupal isn’t just a Content Management System, it’s a lifestyle which brings with it a huge community built on sharing knowledge and supporting each other. Whilst I can’t contribute code of modules to the community, I can contribute an acute awareness of the market, a different perspective on the Drupal world and hopefully some interesting topics for discussion.
I want to offer not just my recruitment expertise but also my consultancy knowledge to the Open Source and Drupal communities which proves that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to IT Business Consultant Paul Church and Mortimer Spinks.
