A market-leading methodology


Requirements gathering:

Understanding the requirements is key to the success of a recruitment campaign. But at Mortimer Spinks it’s not enough simply to understand; our consultants know how important it is to also advise. These aren’t empty words; in specialist technical markets a skill requirement considered ‘essential’ when in fact could just be ‘desirable’ can make a major difference to the success of the project, and the end salary paid to a candidate. Mortimer Spinks consultants have the skills and knowledge to advise, and occasionally challenge, what our clients are looking for. And it’s based on a combination of real life experience from thousands of successful assignments backed up by well-established practical tools like our salary surveys.

Finding candidates:

No other recruitment company invests as much in developing relationships with the very best candidates. We, of course, place our adverts out on all the key job boards (we use a tracking system called Broadbean to constantly evaluate which job boards are the best – a league table that does change over time), but we also do a whole lot of other things that allow us to reach places many other recruiters simply can’t reach. Here are just a few:

using techniques similar to our parent company’s Executive Search division, we can pro-actively headhunt into competitor companies of our clients

our own website generates over 10% of our candidates, which in turn generate almost 20% of our placements

through our iPhone App we can reach candidates on the move

through our magazine Inside Track we advertise our jobs to hundreds of technical experts across the UK

we have invested heavily in using social media to gain access to candidates. Our consultants have, on average, over 500 LinkedIn connections and we have a growing presence on Facebook and Twitter

Interviewing and shortlisting:

Finding the right candidate is less than half the story. Contacting them, establishing their interest and qualifying them into (or out of) the role is at the core of what we do, and something we are very passionate about. Our consultants all receive in depth industry training of interviewing techniques, as well ongoing professional development to ensure their technical knowledge is cutting edge. Technical credibility is so key to this process, and is absolutely essential when assessing a candidate, and establishing rapport with the candidates who are progressed.  
In short, if you don’t understand Drupal, you’re not in a position to place Dupal people. It’s as simple as that.

We can also provide technical and psychometric testing.

Placement:

For the selected few candidates, we provide their CV and summary interview notes to our clients and then help set up relevant interviews. Whilst the selection process from here on in now lies with our client, Mortimer Spinks continues to play an important role acting as the liaison point between the candidate and client. Whether it’s having a late Sunday afternoon call with a candidate to calm their nerves or to have ‘reality check’ about salary expectations our job is to represent the client to the candidate, as well as act as adviser to both.

If the placement is a contractor, we can run the timesheet, invoice and payment process through our unique Contractor Management System, which allows our clients a 360 degree view of their contractor base and costs.
