Last night we saw ‘Round Two’ of the DevOps Battle Royale take place at the amazing space in WeWork, Manchester and what a night it was!!
We started off with the amazing team from Hello Soda (Sam Clark and Leanne Fitzpatrick – Docker Champions) talking to us about Docker from both an Infrastructure and a Data Science angle, which was both enlightening and informative. Then my collaborators from Infinity Works put forward one of their technical experts (Marcell Jusztin) to represent Serverless and he talked about an abundance of features and presented some of his case studies touching on both the pros and cons of running a serverless environment.
Infinity Works have put together a video with all the talks and slides from the night if you wanted to re-visit any parts of the battle, follow the link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9VTHTC3WE0)
We then broke into our groups where the great debate began, there were some excellent points raised from everyone around the room and it was obvious to see that although many people did have a favoured tool, you could use Docker and Serverless and be able get the best out of them both simultaneously depending on your project.
Although the outcome was that both tools are amazing for different things, we still wanted to see who would walk away as the champion. The votes came in and it was very close but (drum roll…) the community has spoken and Serverless was the preferred tool on the night. As mentioned, both tools are very respected in the community and the real winners are the engineers getting to use them.
We will soon be planning ‘Round Three’ with talks of a potential three way battle of the clouds happening, so if you wanted to keep up to date with all news and updates join the meetup group now (https://www.meetup.com/The-DevOps-Battle-Royale/)
Thanks to all our speakers and most of all thanks to everyone that came and helped make it a great night.
Looking forward to ‘Round Three’ … the show must go.
